Breeding Of Hardwoods
The fundamental principles of heredity apply equally well to both hardwoods and softwoods. Yet the hardwood and softwood breeding programs have been very unlike. The fact that hardwoods are so difficult to plant is probably the greatest single reason why relatively little work has been done on them genetically.
