Genetic Improvement of Black Cherry for Timber: A Literature Review

Improved silvicultural systems are being developed in order to meet the ever-increasing demands for high quality black cherry timber. The increased use of clearcutting and the perfection of artificial regeneration techniques for this species will make it possible to utilize genetically improved varieties that are currently being developed. It is pertinent, then, to examine some of the related literature and to review the scope of black cherry improvement and research projects.
