Tree Planting in the United States--1998: Timber Stand Improvement

Timber stand improvement (TSI) was reported for 2,398,543 acres in FY 1998. Last year only 1,417,057 acres were reported, and we cautioned that this simply might be a function of nonreporting or the under reporting of actual accomplishments, associated largely with changes that were occurring in our reporting process. In any event, this year's total of almost 2.4 million acres appears to be in line with the 2.6 million acres reported for FY 1996 and with TSI accomplishments in prior years.
