Effective Application Rates of TMTD Rabbit Repellent to Douglas-Fir Seedlings in the Nursery

Formulations containing 10-percent TMTD were effective in protecting Douglas-fir seedlings from damage by hares and rabbits (Besser and Welch 1959). Effectiveness of the repellent was evaluated in pen and field tests; the formulation was applied by dipping the tops of lifted seedlings or by hand spraying the seedlings before lifting. Such methods usually require approximately one-half gallon of the TMTD formulation for 1,000 2-0 seedlings, and the treated trees are usually coated with protective amounts of the repellent.
