Seedling Storage and Handling in Western Canada

Seedling storage and handling techniques are similar across western Canada. Understanding seedling physiology permits management of the prestorage phase and assists in preparing seedlings for storage. Careful handling and packaging, appropriate storage conditions and management, as well as careful thawing and subsequent storage are essential to seedling vigour once outplanted. Outplanting seedlings while frozen has been investigated with favourable results. This new technique is seen as a new way to improve seedling survival and performance.
