Managing Pesticide and Fertilizer Leaching and Runoff in a Container Nursery
During the first 15 weeks of the growing cycle in a container nursery with travelling-boom irrigation, nearly 60% of the water and 50% of the nitrogen were discharged from the facility. Chemical pesticide use was kept to a minimum using integrated pest management. Waste water was effectively treated with a constructed wetland. Using best management practices in nursery operations can mitigate waste water problems.
