Performance of Some Biodegradable Papers Used for Tree Seedling Containers

Four experimental papers, composed of various mixtures of natural and synthetic fibres, were developed and tested in greenhouse trials with black spruce (Picea mariana [Mill.] B.S.P.) and jack pine (Pinus banksiana Lamb.). Mass and tensile strength retentions of the papers and quality ofthe seedlings were determined and compared with those of commercial controls. Mass and strength retentions and seedling quality varied with paper type.
