Field Performance of Containerized Seedlings in Interior British Columbia

Seedlings of white spruce (Picea glauca [Moench] Voss), lodgepole pine (Pinus contorta var. latifolia Engelm.) and Douglas-fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii [Mirb.] Franco) were grown in Walters bullets and BC/CFS styroblock sand outplanted in 1970 in the bullets, as bullet plugs, and as styroplugs. Bare-root seedlings of each species were planted as controls. Plantings were carried out in June, July, August and September of the same year to test the effect of extending the planting season. Survival and height growth results 10 years after planting are presented.
