Early Growth of Bare-Root and Paperpot Plantations at Various Locations in New Brunswick

Jack pine (Pinus banksiana Lamb.) and black spruce (Picea mariana [Mill.] B.S.P.) planting stock were graded and their growth was monitored during the first few years after planting. Bare-root (2-0) jack pine has shown faster height development and biomass accretion than paperpot jack pine on similar sites, but paperpot black spruce was superior to bare-root (3-0 and 2-0) black spruce.
