Cold Storage Success Affected by Lifting Time

Successful cold storage depends upon the proper lifting date. Ponderosa pine seedlings lifted from the Mt. Shasta Nursery and placed in cold storage before November 1 failed to survive when replanted 3 months later under favorable conditions in the greenhouse. When lifted after November 1 survival was good.
