Attention has traditionally focused on Phytophthora species causing root and crown rot diseases, leaving Phytopthora species causing foliar diseased less well-studied. As part of federally mandated nursery surveys targeting Phytopthora ramorum, numerous California ornamental nurseries have been extensively sampled for leaf spot and twig blight.
