Biological Control of Chestnut Blight in France

A brief history of the discovery of hypovirulent forms of Endothia parasitica is presented. The properties of hypovirulence are discussed, including the exclusion of diseased bark, transmissibility and vegetative incompatibility. A summary is presented describing the practical use of the hypovirulence phenomenon to biologically control chestnut blight in France.
