Review of British Columbia's contemporary and projected western larch seed planning zones in light of climate change

Report
Transfer Guideline: Recommendation

Western Canada

The objectives of this range-wide project were to: (1) define the climate profile with a bioclimatic model that predicts the presence or absence of western larch from climate variables; (2) develop models of genetic variation that predict genetic differences among populations from inhabited climate; (3) develop and map seed zones within predicted distributions for present and future climates; (4) identify populations that are likely to become threatened and identify appropriate conservation strategies; and, (5) develop management strategies for the transfer of the seed sources to future location of their optimal climate, taking into consideration future distributions, adaptation of populations, and variability among General Circulation Models (GCM).
