Hidden electroprhoretic variation at the aconitase locus of Pinus bamksiana

The aconitase locus (ACO) of jack pine (Pinus banksiana Lamb.) is highly polymorphic. Screening ACO variation simultaneously on two electrophoresis buffers revealed more variation than detected using a single buffer and more hidden variants than detected at four other allozyme loci screened on four electrophoresis buffers. The characteristics of the jack pine ACO polymorphism suggest that intragenic recombination could; play a role in maintaining genetic variation at this locus.
