Forest Restoration Beyond Fuel Reduction: What is the Vision?
Considerable focus on the management of federal, state and private lands has been on fuel reduction treatment to reduce the threat of large wildfires. However, the focus is now shifting toward moving beyond just fuel reduction treatments and thinking more broadly about restoring forests in a more holistic way, particularly on federal lands.
What are the next steps and approaches in the restoration of forests? Do we as professional foresters and resource managers have a clear vision of the need for restoration and the desired structure and function of a restored forest? What knowledge do we have to guide us and what other information do we need to help us? More importantly, do we all share the same vision of what a restored forest’s structure, function, appearance, and outputs should be?
These topics and more will be explored by 29 speakers over two days. An optional field trip is also available on the third day.
