Engel’s Nursery Inc. is pleased to host the 2009 meeting of the Northeastern Forest and Conservation Nursery Association on July 20-23, 2009 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. We’ve tried to put together a program that will be not only interesting but informative for nursery professionals and non-nursery people alike.

The Amway Grand Plaza Hotel in Grand Rapids Michigan will be the home for this years meeting. The Amway Grand is an exceptionally beautiful facility with ample parking, indoor pool, fabulous meeting rooms, and many fine restaurants and lounges. They have given our group a reduced rate so please make your reservations before June 20, 2009 so you can enjoy this great hotel at a great price. After June 20, 2009 the Amway cannot guarantee these prices or availability. The theme for our meeting this year is “Forests of the Future”. We hope to explore many aspects of this industry from seedling production for reforestation to forest management in the long term. We have many exciting speakers lined up this year to talk on various aspects of this subject. On our first day of tours the group will venture south to the W.K. Kellogg Experimental Forest and learn about their research on tree breeding and genetics, planting techniques, plantation establishment and management. The second day of tours we will begin with a visit to Van’s Pines Nursery for a tour of the Plug Production greenhouses. Here we will view the production of seedlings in Jiffy plugs. Lunch will be served at Westside County Park on the shores of Lake Michigan. After lunch we will head to Engel’s Nursery where we will tour the seedling operation where we grow over 100 varieties of deciduous and conifer seedlings. There will also be test plots and equipment set up for viewing courtesy of our vendors. In addition to the agenda set up for conference attendees we have also arranged spouses/guest activities for each day in hopes of giving all visitors a memorable visit of our beautiful state.
