Native Forest Nursery Supervisor
The Native Forest Nursery Supervisor is responsible for the long-term development and daily care of native dryland and mesic forest seeds, seedlings, and outplantings. Based in the ahupua‘a of Kawaihae, this position supports The Kohala Center’s (TKC) nursery at Keawewai and native planting efforts by community for the healthy return and regeneration of our native forests. This position holds the unique opportunity to research, test and share native propagation practices that strengthen the health and wellbeing of soil, seeds, seedlings, and their pollinators and planters. This position co-leads efforts to establish Keawewai as a place for native planting of native forest plants by creating optimal conditions that provide them their best chance of taking root and becoming part of an interdependent Hawai‘i forest ecosystem. The ideal candidate has native plant nursery experience and has strong relationship and responsibility to Kawaihae and/or native dryland and mesic forest plants learned from many kumu and years of practice.
