Family Scientific Name: Fabaceae
Family Common Name: Pea Family
Scientific Name: Desmodium batocaulon A. Gray
Common Name: San Pedro ticktrefoil
Ecotype: Madrean Archipelago
General Distribution: Found in southern Arizona, southern New Mexico and northern Mexico in pine woods 3,500-6,500 ft in elevation (Kearney and Peebles 1960).
Propagation Goal: Plants
Propagation Method: Seed
ProductType: Container (plug)
Propagule Collection: Collect when seed pods are brown, brittle and easily detach from the plant. Collect entire pods.
Propagule Processing: Orthodox storage is assumed.
Establishment Phase: There is little information on germination requirements for D. batocaulon. One study examined germination rates of three other Desmodium species native to the eastern US found that untreated seeds achieved germination rates of 76-97% (Cushwa et al 1968). Subjecting seeds to warm moist and warm dry stratification did not significantly increase these rates (Cushwa et al 1968).
