Family Scientific Name: Chenopodiaceae
Family Common Name: Goosefoot Family
Scientific Name: Grayia spinosa (Hook.) Moq.
Common Name: Spiny hopsage
Species Code: GRSP
Ecotype: Gardiner Basin of Yellowstone National Park
General Distribution: Western US from New Mexico to Montana and west to the Pacific states
ProductType: Propagules (seeds, cutings, poles, etc.)
Propagule Collection: Seed is hand stripped or beaten from plants.
Propagule Processing: We reduce the wing-like bracts by running the seed through a Westrup Laboratory Brush Machine with #7 mantle with light air to reduce chaff. The seed is then run through a multi-deck cleaner with 2.35 mm top screen and solid bottom, again with light air. An indent cleaner with 2.5 to 2.75 indents can be used to clean off any remaining cheatgrass seed. When cleaned in this fashion there are approximately 1,000,000 seeds/kg (460,000 seeds/lb).
