Family Scientific Name: Asteraceae
Family Common Name: Aster
Scientific Name: Ericameria nauseosa (Pallas ex Pursh) Nesom & Baird
Common Name: rubber rabbitbrush
Species Code: ERNA10
Ecotype: Idaho Fish and Game, Boise River WMA: 2900-3200 ft elevation along ID-21
Propagation Goal: Seeds
Propagation Method: Seed
ProductType: Propagules (seeds, cutings, poles, etc.)
Propagule Collection: 13 lbs. of seed heads, hand collected into paper bags
Propagule Processing: METHOD OF CLEANING: ERNA 10 seed cleaned according to other recorded procedures in this database with one addition to protocols. Seed cleaning started with the brush machine was then air-screened multiple times, to remove nonviable seed and inert material. The seed was then run on the office Clipper. This produced seed with 50% purity, and if greater purity was required, inefficient hand picking was necessary. We were trying various sizes of hand screens during the hand picking process, which removed a negligible amount of additional material, until we tried one of the splatter guards we have on hand. This is a kitchen implement usually utilized for preventing oil burns while frying. One of the 2 guards we have does not work (woven metal screen texture like a window screen) while the other was very effective and efficient, providing us with 99% pure seed after one screening. It has an approximately 1mm sized diamond shaped hole mesh, with one side that feels textured, and when viewed under a scope shows that it is produced with miniature welds and is not woven. Yield 0.13 lbs. Number of Seeds per Pound: 466127 Seeds/lb, Purity: 99%, TZ: 86% (Idaho State Seed Lab)
Harvesting, Storage and Shipping: Storage: Cold Storage, -15 to -11 Celcius
