Economic Case For Genetic Manipulation Of Short-rotation Sycamore

Best estimates of costs, yields, and revenues indicate that profits from short-rotation sycamore are highest on best sites, at wide spacings, and with 4- or 5- year cutting cycles. Genetically improved stock that provides a 10 percent increase in growth would almost double net revenues. Genetic improvement that would insure adequate growth without fertilization would allow marginal sites to become profitable.
