Accelerated-Optimal-Growth: Applications in Tree Improvement

The concept of accelerated-optimal-growth ( AOG) refers to the rapid production of large tree seedlings in protective culture facilities using programmed control of growth factors, especially photoperiod. AOG systems can help to increase the efficiency of several phases of a tree improvement program. The application of AOG to studies of genetic variation and selection, progeny testing, seed orchard establishment and management, hybridization, vegetative propagation, and mass production of improved stock are discussed.
