Cone Characteristics and Seed Yield in Jack Pine

Variation between seed sources in cone characteristics of jack pine has been reported by Schoenike et al. (1959). The study reported here was conducted to determine the kind and magnitude of variation of several cone characteristics, and seed yield in trees from 11 provenances of jack pine planted in a rangewide test in northern Wisconsin. This information would be useful in selection and breeding and for the prediction of cone and seed yields in seed orchards of jack pine.
