Undercutting in Loblolly Pine

Undercutting has been demonstrated in many species to be an effective method to control seedling height, manipulate root system morphology, and alter seedling physiology. Similar results have been demonstrated in loblolly pine undercutting research at Union Camp. Apparently, the moisture stress condition of the seedlings at the time of undercutting plays a very important role in the response achieved.
