11. Soil Moisture


Water form 60 to 90 percent of the fresh weight of actively growing tissue, particularly roots and stems. Water is essential in photosynthesis and hydrolytic reactions. Water is the solvent in which gases, other solvents and nutrients move through the plant. Water is essential to maintain a minimum degree of turgity that is needed for cell enlargement and growth.
